As someone who has been reading fantasy since the 70's, I really believed nothing would come along that would captivate me as much as works from Piers Anthony (A Spell for Chameleon) or have me eager to read more (Discwold by Terry Pratchett) but I was wrong.

There is something truly special about Whitehaven. From it's scenery to it's inhabitants, the world and it's stories come to life in the imagination. Once I started, I could not, and did not want to, stop reading.

There are a myriad of good fantasy books out there, and who doesn't love dragons? But Whitehaven isn't just good. It is special. While there's plenty of magic on the island, the most amazing magic is what the authors have created in this world and the many, many adventures they can tell within it.

When you read for decades, you realize you can sense a story that is truly special. This one is. I said that to the authors after reading the pre-edited copy, and I stand by it now.

I neglected so much on my to-do list to read this book. From the charismatic characters, to the action packed gut punches of adventure, and the hilariously magical connections with all the creatures and beings of myth, I found this tale to be legendary. It rolled out the perfect fantasy movie in my mind, reminiscent of Christopher Paolini’s Eragon (the book, not the movie). The end battle was a heroic team effort that I applauded!

It was a supreme delight to be able to read an advanced reader’s copy from my delightful friends across the pond. I am beyond proud of this accomplishment.

All Hail Simon and Perri!
You two are FULL of magic.
